J-School Noire Halifax

  • Nova Scotia Community College Ivany Campus 80 Mawiomi Place Dartmouth, NS, B2Y Canada (map)

The Canadian Association of Black Journalists (CABJ), in partnership with the University of King’s College and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), are pleased to announce the creation of J-School Noire, a media training and mentorship session being held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at NSCC’s Ivany campus in Dartmouth.

This free workshop is a chance for high school and junior high-school students to learn from top local media pros and build storytelling skills with the aim of equipping the next generation of media professionals.

J-School Noire focuses on four key skills:

  • How to tell a story (writing, producing for broadcast and online)

  • How to conduct an interview

  • How to shoot and edit

  • How to do a live report

After completing J-School Noire, interested students have the opportunity to carry-on their learning by way of a mentoring program. The CABJ will pair students with a senior journalist for yearlong mentoring as they begin their journey towards media careers.
