CABJ statement regarding online harassment of Black journalists

The Canadian Association of Black Journalists stands with our members and colleagues who have been targeted and threatened over the last couple of weeks. We affirm you. We uphold the fearless work you do. We will defend you as you confront white supremacy and racism in our country.

“To those who are sending these hateful and derogatory messages– you have not and will not succeed,” said Nadia Stewart, the CABJ’s Executive Director. “Journalists of colour and our allies will continue to expose and call out your odious beliefs and actions.”

The CABJ endorses the statement of the Canadian Association of Journalists and their calls for the government to address the targeting and harassment of reporters. As the CABJ meets with newsroom leaders we will continue to push for more action to protect and support Black journalists.
