J School Noire 2023

Empowering the next generation.

Students get behind the anchor desk during J-School Noire Halifax 2020.

The Canadian Association of Black Journalists is pleased to announce the 2023 edition of J-School Noire!

This free workshop will be held during Black History Month in Halifax featuring some of Canada’s best-known media personalities. It’s a chance for Black high school and junior high-school students to learn from top media pros and build their storytelling skills.

J-School Noire was transformational from the moment the CABJ launched it, in Halifax, during Black History Month 2020. Students will learn key skills, including:

  • Hands-on Shooting

  • Editing

  • Podcasting

  • Writing

  • Interviewing

And much more!

Once students have completed J-School Noire, the CABJ will pair them with a senior journalist for yearlong mentoring as they begin their journey towards media careers.

J-School Noire is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors.
