Culturally-sensitive support for Black journalists.

In December 2020, we reached out to our members asking them about mental health supports within their companies or work situations. The responses were not surprising: Black journalists crave culturally sensitive counselling services. To address this problem, the Canadian Association of Black Journalists contacted Carole Sandy, a Toronto-based Black counsellor and began working on initiatives to support Black journalists across Canada.

Introducing Lifeline Healing Circles

Building on the initial session hosted in May 2021 at RISE Conference, Carole Sandy will host monthly sessions for Black journalists who need a safe space to talk about what’s happening in their newsroom and get the help they need. Join us on July 6 at 7:30pm ET for the first in a series of regularly scheduled sessions.

  • Monthly, virtual sessions open to Black journalists across the country to discuss mental health and self-care

  • Sessions facilitated by Carole Sandy

  • 60-minute session

  • CABJ membership not required
